Let’s Read! Bout of Books 25

Hey all! Good news – school is done!

I’m officially finished with all my assignments and I’ll be graduating next month, then facing the job market. But until then, I suddenly have lots of time to read so I’ll be showing up more here and participating in my favourite readathon – Bout of Books!

bout may 2019The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda Shofner and Kelly Rubidoux Apple. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, May 13th and runs through Sunday, May 19th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure. There are challenges, Twitter chats, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 25 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. – From the Bout of Books team

You can read at your own pace, which is perfectly fine with me. I’ve currently got 5 books on the go so I’ll try to finish a few of those, and get some long overdue reviews set up for the blog.

These are the ones I’m reading right now:

The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin

Still! This is the one I started in January as a partner-read but we’re reading it in person with each other and haven’t had much time for it with school, etc. We will finish this summer though!

Witchmark by C. L. Polk

This one’s taking me a while because my ereader still won’t let me upload books onto it so I’ve only been reading it on my computer (very difficult!)

Gods of Jade and Shadow by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

An ARC I picked up from the Ontario Library Association conference – interesting but the length has kind of been putting me off so I’m not very far in.

1Q84 by Haruki Murakami

Speaking of length! This was the ‘long book’ choice for my book club – we won’t be discussing it until September so we have lots of time to pick our way through it.

The Death Scene Artist by Andrew Wilmot

Another one I got from the OLA conference. I just started this one and it’s super creepy, should be a quick read.

It seems like a lot but I usually only focus in on two or three books at a time — The Westing Game has been on pause for a while and Witchmark is forgotten on my computer. I’ll try to finish some of these during the readathon but I also have a full shelf of ARCs that I really need to get to — my plan is to read them before I move so I can give them away.

If you’ll be joining #BoutofBooks or you’d just like to see what it’s all about, I’ll be sharing my progress on Twitter and Instagram @spinesinaline. And watch this space for new posts very soon!

What are you currently reading? Do you read multiple books at one time?

Any #BoutofBook -ers here?

  1. Congratulations on being done with school. And yay for making it through! I hope you enjoy your month off before you have to start delving into the job world. I hope you’ll be able to read a lot of books in that time as well x

  2. I’ve read The Westing Game two or three times, when I was a kid, although the last time I might’ve been older… Idk, but I’m still not sure I quite understood everything in that book lol. I have Witchmark but haven’t gotten to it yet. It sounds good though, and I’ve heard some good things!

    • I felt the same way when I read it as a kid, I didn’t fully understand it and always intended to go back when I was older. A lot of people in my book club recommended Witchmark so I wanted to check it out
